What's Happening this Season
Comps
OISA athletes compete in Banked Slalom, Boardercross, Slopestyle and Halfpipe comps throughout the regular season within their league. All riders compete for their school and are ranked individually with results sorted into squads of 4 per school that are ranked interscholastically. Riders who qualify for state competitions will compete in the same 4 events at state in March. Riders may qualify for one or all events based on their ranking within their league during the regular season.
Banked Slalom
This is a race on a winding course filled with whoops, rollers, kickers, and banked turns. Your time is based on how fast you can make it to the end while clearing all the gates correctly.
Boarder
cross
Four competitors race on the banked slalom course together. The goal is to be the first to finish. The top two riders from each heat advance to the next round until the finals are complete.
SlopeStyle
Riders snowboard down a course with a variety of obstacles including rails, jumps and other terrain park features. Tricks fall mainly into three categories: spins, grinds, and grabs. No flips or inverts allowed.
halfpipe
Boarders begin at the summit of the halfpipe and perform a series of tricks and jumps as they traverse its length. Scores are based on the variety and complexity of tricks attempted, how well they were executed, their use of the halfpipe and the height of their jumps.
STATE!
The most fun week of the season! Riders qualify for state comps based on scores during regular season. The more riders who compete in the first comp for each event, the more slots the league will earn at state. Riders might quality for one or all four events.
State comps take place over five days the second full week of March. One day for each event plus a day to practice before it starts. Four alternates for each event per league are also named and are often called to compete. These comps do happen during school days and it's up to riders and their families if they choose to miss school and compete. It's early in the spring semester and most all riders choose to participate.
