Shredwell Scholarship

The Shredwell Scholarship was instituted in 2011, by the OISA Board of Directors, who felt strongly about giving back to our members. The OISA values education and feels this is a great way to help support the families who are part of the OISA. We are proud to offer this opportunity to our seniors who are continuing education beyond high school. In 2012, Casey Sobolewski approached the OISA about partnering with the Shredwell Scholarship to celebrate Liz Lord’s life. In 2015, the Shredwell Scholarship will contribute $2000 to furthering the education of one of our seniors who meets the qualifications stated below.

The qualifications are simple:

  • A current OISA member
  • A graduating senior going to college
  • Have a GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Qualified for and competed at the 2014 OISA State Championships
  • Fill out the application
    • Submit at least 2 references:
      • 1 must be from a snowboard coach
      • No family references will be accepted

In Loving Memory of Liz LordIMG_0422

Liz Lord came to Portland, Oregon when she was accepted to the University of Portland on a full ride scholarship to play volleyball for the Pilots.  After receiving a degree in Marketing/PR she decided to stay in Portland where she could snowboard during the winter and enjoy the year-round richness the town has to offer.

In 2008 she met Casey Sobolewski, head coach for the Riverdale Snowboard Team. They instantly fell in love with each other’s thirst for knowledge, their passion for snowboarding and their enthusiasm for life.  Liz was a giant sideline player for the Team, constantly helping out behind the scenes, always supporting the kids and their coaches.

In 2011 she was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor on her brain stem.  With a life expectancy of 12 months she never stopped loving life and eagerly looked for ways to slide down the mountain sideways, even while confined to a wheelchair.

On February 1st, 2012 she passed away with her family, best friends and Casey by her side.  No activity made her smile more than snowboarding down Mt Hood on a powder day, making the Shredwell Scholarship the perfect way to honor her incredible life!
